Technology is mandatory for any online marketing home-based business, but frequently people just starting out don’t have a good understanding of what kind of technology is needed or how it will affect their establishment.
The following ten recommendations ought to help you get off to a good start. Try to establish systems and processes that work together easily, and are accessible all of the time to sustain purchasers and prospects.
Establish a computerized system if you want to make your work simple and your bank account fat.
1. Computer & Peripherals
If you’re going to conduct internet marketing, you’ll need a computer – hopefully one of your own, either a standard version or a laptop. You’ll need one with a lot of memory and speed. A broadband connection is preferred over dial-up. You’ll also need a printer. Get wireless capabilities for both.
2. Your Unique Domain Name
Be sure to purchase a domain name that you own, so that you can make a start~start} to create your own brand name. Further, some advertising platforms won’t allow you to include affiliate links, or even subdomains, but only a domain that you own. A first-rate website name will be brief (30 characters or less), sensible when either heard or seen, and representative of your business or product. The preferred names end in “.com” and those are preferred for many online marketing small businesses, provided they’re obtainable.
3. Communications
Another fundamental tool is telecommunications, including an ISP and a phone – either land-line, cellular, or VOIP, with or without headset – as you prefer. It should have both local and long distance features, and if you intend to hold teleconferences for your downline, the ability to handle conference calls. If you’re going to do trainings, etc., you’ll almost certainly want to invest in a teleconferencing service that can handle many, perhaps hundreds or even a thousand, callers concurrently.
4. Web Hosting Service
You’ll have to have a web host to serve as a “home” for your website. There are many web hosting services available to help home based businesses and internet marketers. Their products do differ, as do their costs, so make sure to shop around before making your decision.
5. Applications & Data Protection
You’ll also require robust security for your systems and data. This includes physical security, plus software such as firewalls, and security programs like McAfee or Norton.
6. Systems & Info Backup/Restore Systems
Yet another necessity is for backup of your locally resident applications and information. Despite the best security programs you might be able to implement, there will eventually come a situation when you undergo some sort of a system crash, with either some or total loss of data and crucial applications. So you will also require a rigorous backup and restore capability.
7. Goods
You’ll require one or more services to sell – products that you have developed yourself, or ones that have been created by one or more third parties. If you develop your own products, then you’ll also have to worry about all the associated back office capabilities. If you get your products from other vendors, then you’ll have to worry about maintaining the relations with those vendors, order fulfillments, customer satisfaction and receivables and collections.
8. Affiliate Program Network
If you’re intending to sell several affiliate products, you’ll almost certainly also want to participate with one or more Affilate Program Networks (APNs), such as ClickBank, Commission Junction, or LinkShare, etc. to handle your commissions, sales statistics, and other back office functions for you.
9. Web 2.0 Features
The Web is constantly changing, so if you want to succeed in today’s internet world, you’ll want sites and services that allow blogging and social communities (i.e., ones that use Web 2.0 to facilitate a whole host of participation, using the web as the network platform).
10. Technical Support
And finally – another regularly overlooked necessity – is the need for first-rate technical support – for both your local hardware and software, but even more importantly, for any of your customer-facing websites and product systems.
If your systems go down and you are unable to get prompt technical support from any/all your vendors, the resulting downtime can effect your advertising campaigns, you can lose or upset potential customers, and ultimately, your income will suffer (including your brand, as well).
Technology is the lifeblood of an affiliate marketing business, and Murphy’s Law being what it is, you must to prepare for the eventual breakdowns and system crashes that come about as well. Applying all these necessary technologies will help the success of your affiliate company.
